Daltonganj, May 18: Road robbers in a police camouflage uniform! And they committed road robberies and assured their victims of returning their valuables that they used to loot the next day at the police station!
The Palamu police caught four criminals who used to wear police camouflage uniforms and rob passersby and motorists, identifying themselves as cops on road-checking duty.
Their victims did not disbelieve them as they played ‘fake cops’ too well and were convincing.
SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said the four identified as Shamshad, Akhilesh, Mukhtar and Navin who played fake cops and used to loot people were remanded in judicial custody today.
The Pipratarn police station busted this gang of fake cops.
The police have recovered two desi pistols, two live rounds of fire, 11 cell phones, three sets of camouflage police uniforms, one torch and a pipe to smoke marijuana. They also had one toy pistol and one fighter ring with them!
The SP further said, “These four fake cops were bringing in disrepute to the police in Palamu. The image of the police in Palamu was at stake. We finally got these four.”
Again, these four fake cops used to drop in the name of a police sub-inspector who was once in the Panki Pipratarn area and for over two years he is no longer in Palamu following his transfer from here.
The four fake cops acted in such a manner so as not to cause any suspicion at least from the victims.
The SP went on to say, “One of the four fake cops even got richer by Rs 30,000 when he at gunpoint, got this money transferred to his account from the account of his victim on Phone Pe.”
What was most distressing about it was that no victim of this fake gang bothered to complain to the police by way of lodging FIRs.
It was the Pipratarn police that got one victim out of the fake cops’ gang from Lawalong in Chatra district who was most defiant to lodge FIR but on the persuasion of the police he agreed to lodge an FIR against the gang of fake cops, added Sinha.
