Daltonganj, Oct 6: Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandan Kumar Sinha held Shastra Puja on Vijayadashmi, October 5, at the sprawling lawn of his official residence in Daltonganj.
This was the second Shastra Puja of his tenure here as SP. Police sources said it is the present SP Sinha who has introduced Shastra Puja at the official residence of the superintendent of police Palamu.
The arms laid on the table were sophisticated ones like INSAS rifle, AK 47, pistol sans the decades-old 3o3 rifle etc.
One of the participants of the Puja, SDPO Bishrampur Surjit Kumar said today: “It was a sombre Puja on the Vijayadashmi. It is an honour to be a part of it.”
SDPO Chhatarpur Ajay Kumar said, “The Shastra is for the defence of the cop and with which the cop protects the other. The weapon thus serves twin purposes. It protects us and we protect others with it. Such Shastra Puja inculcates a sense of gratitude and pride in the weaponry.”
Reminded that quite often one hears of cops ending their lives with weapons or firing at own colleagues in a fit of fury or in some acute and severe mental stress or distress to which Ajay Kumar said, “Nothing can be any more sad and tragic than this kind of aberration.”
The SP’s Shastra Puja had a mix of women power too when three women became a part of the Puja.
