New Delhi: The Indian government has approved the rollout of the PAN Card 2.0 Project to upgrade and streamline the existing PAN system. This initiative aligns with the Budget 2023 announcement to make PAN the “common business identifier” for specified government agencies. The project introduces a unified digital platform, enhanced QR codes, and improved systems logic, aiming to simplify processes, strengthen security, and improve taxpayer convenience.
Key Features of PAN 2.0
1.Unified Digital Platform:
•PAN-related services, currently spread across multiple platforms (e-Filing Portal, UTIITSL Portal, and Protean e-Gov Portal), will now be integrated into a single unified platform.
•The platform will manage all PAN and TAN-related services, including applications, corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, and grievance redressals.
2.Enhanced QR Code:
•The upgraded PAN cards will feature dynamic QR codes that display the latest data from the PAN database.
•These QR codes will help validate PAN details and provide key information like the holder’s name, photo, signature, and date of birth when scanned.
3.Old PAN Card Validity:
•Existing PAN cards remain valid, provided they are linked to Aadhaar.
•PAN holders can choose to upgrade to the new QR-coded version without any fees.
4.Automatic Electronic PAN Card:
•All existing PAN cardholders will receive an electronic version of the upgraded PAN card via email without needing to apply for it.
•A physical card with the new QR code can be requested at a cost of ₹50 for residents within India.
5.Streamlining Duplicate PAN Cases:
•The upgraded system includes improved mechanisms to detect and resolve duplicate PAN card issues, reducing the chances of multiple PANs being held by one person.
