Daltonganj, May 14: Latehar district recorded 63.09 percent voter turnout in the first phase of the four-phase panchayat elections that started in Jharkhand today.

A press note issued by the Latehar district public relations office confirmed this 63.09 percent of polling.

Three blocks of this district Saryu, Chandwa and Latehar, having a total number of 472 booths, went to the polls.

Saryu polled 64.43 percent, Chandwa 60.14 and Latehar 65.54 making an average district percentage of 63.09 read the official note.

Sources said Saryu block polling 64.43 percent comes as a big shot in the arm of the Latehar administration, proving it carved a well-knit plan and preparation for the once upon a time Maoists’ all season bastion Saryu.

Chandwa and Latehar are no less sensitive blocks than Saryu and here too, the administration conducted the polls in peace.
