Ranchi, Sept 25: Taking a quantum jump in the direction of legal awareness para legal volunteers will now start visiting villages to create awareness regarding AIDS and HIV and prevent the society from sexually transmitted diseases.

The situation came after their training on ‘awareness and HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act, 2017’.

The programme was organised by Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society (JSACS) with the help of TRY, an NGO at the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) office in the civil court premise in Jharkhand capital.

Addressing the above program, DLSA Secretary Kamala Kumari said “by taking such training, Para Legal Volunteers would go from village to village and make people aware of remote areas”.

On this occasion, Deputy Director of JSACS, Devashish Chakraborty explained in detail how AIDS spreads and the prevention of AIDS.  He said that having unprotected sex spreads AIDS and HIV. It can be transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person or by using infected syringes and needles. It can also be transmitted from an infected mother to the baby before birth, at the time of delivery, or shortly after delivery. Transplanting infected organs and being infected with the HIV virus once means life-long infection and painful death.

Devashish further added that to prevent AIDS, one should not have sex with anyone other than the life partner, use condoms during sexual contact, do not use syringes and needles used by a person addicted to drugs. Women with AIDS should not conceive, as the child born to them may contain the disease, do not take blood from an unknown person when blood is needed. Take only the tested blood and use disposable syringes and needles and other medical instruments after boiling them in water for 20 minutes and sterilizing them, and do not use the blade used by another person.

He also emphasised and gave information about the practice of donating blood. He also mentioned that every healthy man should donate blood after every 90 days and a healthy woman to donate after every 120 days.

Deputy Director of JSACS, Devashish, Animesh Arun, Master Trainer, PLVs of DLSA, Panel Lawyers, Retainer Lawyers, Staff and Secretary of Dalsa, Kamala Kumari were present in the programme.
