New Delhi: A Parliamentary Committee on Transport will summon Boeing executives, Air India representatives, the Civil Aviation Secretary, and DGCA officials in early July to discuss critical lapses linked to the deadly Air India Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad. The panel aims to scrutinise multiple shortcomings, including aircraft maintenance gaps, the DGCA’s oversight role, and pilot mental fitness.

Focus On Safety And Oversight

Sources say the committee will examine recent helicopter accidents on the Char Dham route as well. Members will consult in Gangtok next week to review northeastern air and road connectivity and will travel on an Air India flight for a firsthand look at airline operations and safety standards.

Immediate Disciplinary Action After Crash

Following the tragic crash, which occurred seconds after take-off, the DGCA removed three senior Air India officials from duties related to crew scheduling and ordered disciplinary action. The regulator warned that failing to comply could even lead to suspension of the airline’s licence.

Key Black Box Data Recovered

Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has successfully extracted data from the aircraft’s black boxes. The modules were transported securely from Ahmedabad to Delhi by IAF aircraft and analysed jointly by Indian and US experts. This data will help investigators reconstruct the final moments before the crash and guide safety improvements.
