Parliament’s Budget Session for 2023 to start from January 31

New Delhi, Jan 13: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Friday that the Parliament’s budget session will start on January 31 and continue till April 6. According to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, there would be 27 sittings spaced out over 66 days with a regular break in between.

President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament to kick off the session. President Murmu will deliver her first speech to the two Houses of Parliament since taking office in August of last year.

The Union Budget is likely to be tabled on February 1, as per convention.

To provide the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees time to review grant requests and submit reports pertaining to their ministries and departments, a break will be allowed from February 14 to March 12.

The two Houses discuss the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in great detail during the first half of the budget session before moving on to consider the Union Budget.

The Finance Minister will respond to the debate over the union budget, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the debate over the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.

Apart from the government’s legislative agenda, the main focus of the second half of the budget session is the consideration of the requests for funds for various ministries. This portion of the session is used to pass the Union Budget, a money law.

It is going be the fifth budget of the Modi 2.0 government and Nirmala Sitharaman, and the last full budget before the general elections take place in April-May 2024.
