Dhanbad, May 18: In a bizarre incident, a youth stabbed a passenger with a knife several times on platform number 2 and 3 at the Dhanbad railway station on Thursday morning.
In course of the stabbing, the assaulter youth also got injured and the GRP got both of them admitted to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad.
The GRP officials said that the incident occurred at around 8.35 am in the morning. The passenger Mahaveer Kumar Singh, a resident of Pradhankhanta came down from Asansol – Varanasi passenger train on platform no.-2. As he began moving towards Bankmore a youth identified as Akash Kumar, a resident of the Kenduadih area, hit him with the knife on the neck.
The GRP personnel said Akash stabbed Mahaveer Kumar Singh in the neck, back and stomach. His hand also received a cut injury himself when the victim tried to snatch his knife.
Eyewitnesses told media persons that the youth Ashok Kumar was roaming on the platform with an open knife. The passenger Mahaveer Kumar Singh when reportedly questioned Akash about the reason behind roaming on the platform with an open knife, he (Akash) attacked him.
After the incident chaos prevailed on the platform and soon the GRP personnel and the RPF escort party reached the spot and overpowered the assaulter.
Dhanbad GRP Inspector Sanjay Prasad was on leave and the official officiating the police station said that investigation is being done. The reason for the attack is yet to be cleared. The assaulter youth looks normal and is under treatment at SNMMCH Dhanbad.
