Deoghar, May 17: A doctor on duty at Deoghar Sadar Hospital was attacked by the patient’s family members after he refused to operate on the patient on Tuesday early morning. The incident took place at around 4 a.m.

According to reports, the attendant of a patient whose leg was injured pressured Dr Kundan, a paediatrician, on duty. The patient was brought to Deoghar Sadar Hospital by the local town police.

As a paediatrician, Dr Kundan showed his limitations by refusing to follow the attendants’ directions, but the attendant lost patience and slapped him hard.

Following the incident, the medical fraternity went on a strike and chose not to do their duties. Due to this, the OPD has been shut since early morning, and even a burning case is not being treated.

The enraged doctors demanded immediate arrest of all five accused, including a political woman leader possibly linked with Jharkhand’s ruling party, during a meeting organised by the IMA’s local body in old Sadar Hospital.

Talking to lagatar24.com, the district general secretary of IMA Dr Gauri Shankar told that only after the arrest of all 5 accused the medical services will resume. He also stated that slapping a doctor is an insult to the entire medical fraternity. “We will not compromise our insult in any way,” he said.

After the ruckus, the local police detained two individuals. After 11 hours of the incident, SDPO Pawan Kumar paid a visit to Sadar Hospital.

No police report has been filed yet, according to the deputy superintendent Dr Prabhat Ranjan, who spoke to lagatar24.com about the incident.

According to reports, one of the attackers was responsible for injuring the patient. The facts will be revealed after a thorough inquiry, but in the meantime, hospital services have been suspended, and the poor are suffering.
