New Delhi, May 17: The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved order on Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s interim bail request in another case involving the Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh.
After hearing both sides, a bench of judges led by L Nageswara Rao, BR Gavai, and AS Bopanna reserved the order. The state of Uttar Pradesh’s Additional Solicitor General SV Raju rejected Azam Khan’s appeal, claiming that he is a land grabber who has been the subject of numerous private complaints and is a persistent offender.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Azam Khan, told the court that he had no involvement with the institution because he was not in charge of it. The Supreme Court had previously voiced its concern with the extended wait in the Allahabad High Court’s decision on Azam Khan’s bail application, calling it a “travesty of justice.”
In a case involving improper possession of land, the Allahabad High Court granted interim release to Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan last week.
Azam Khan was arrested in another FIR, according to a current application filed by Lzafeer Ahmad, which appears to be nothing more than a ruse to subvert justice and prevent the Petitioner from being released from his politically contrived incarceration.
In another case involving Kotwali in Rampur, Azam Khan has been placed in judicial prison.
