Patna, May 4: The Bihar economic survey and caste census were temporarily halted on Thursday by the Patna High Court.

The hearing on a petition contesting and requesting a temporary halt to the caste and economic survey in Bihar was concluded by the Patna High Court on Wednesday.

A division bench led by Chief Justice KV Chandran heard the petitions filed by Akhilesh Kumar and others yesterday.

The parties were represented before the court by advocates Dinu Kumar, Ritu Raj, and Abhinav Srivastava on behalf of the petitioners and by General PK Shahi on behalf of the State.

The State government is conducting caste and economic surveys, Dinu Kumar said to the court. He said that this right to conduct surveys is beyond the jurisdiction of the State government.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Advocate General PK Shahi stated that the survey is being conducted to create plans for the public welfare and to raise the social standard.

On January 7, the Bihar government began the caste survey process.
