New Delhi, Jan 6: The Central Government on Friday assured the Supreme Court that the timelines on judicial appointments will be followed and the pending collegium recommendations will be cleared soon.

Attorney General for India R Venkataramani told a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka, “All efforts are being made to conform to the timelines(as laid down by the Supreme Court).”

The AG assured the apex court that 44 of the 104 High Court collegium recommendations still pending with the Central Government will be handled quickly and sent to the Supreme Court collegium by Saturday, and the other recommendations will also be handled quickly.

“I am personally looking into it, not the names but the process”, said AG.

The bench sought information from the Centre regarding the status of 10 recommendations submitted by the Supreme Court collegium. The bench noted that two of the suggestions have been pending since October 2021, which is quite some time ago.

The AG promised that the Rajasthan High Court will soon receive approval for all of these collegium recommendations.

The bench adjourned the hearing till February 3, 2023.
