Dhanbad, Oct 8: Pakur district administration organised a marathon run to mark the end of ‘Wildlife Protection Week’ (Oct.2-Oct.8) in order to create public awareness about the importance of wildlife protection on Friday. People from all walks of life participated and ran for the protection and preservation of wildlife in the region.
While setting off the Marathon Race, Pakur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varun Ranjan stated that the major goal of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife protection and preservation.
“It is our responsibility to safeguard wildlife, and we must be vigilant about environmental conservation,” said the DC.
The marathon began at Sido Kanhu Murmu Park and ended at Sadar Hospital in Sonajori. This event drew a large crowd, particularly boys and girls from schools and colleges, who ran with banners and placards promoting wildlife conservation.
The district’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Rajnish Kumar, noted that, like in the past, the “Wildlife Protection Week” was observed in the district this year as well from October 2 to October 8. The theme of Wildlife Protection Week 2021 was ‘Forest and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet’.
“To mark the week-long event, which finished today, the department staged a marathon race to gain public attention.We’d continue organising programmes on this issue the entire year,” he remarked.
Pakur ranger Rambalak Prasad, Amrapada ranger Kamlesh Kumar and other officers of district administration also played active roles in organizing the race.
Boys and girls in large numbers including the DC, senior officials of district administration, Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Anmol Kumar Singh, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal and District Olympic Association’s chairman Amlan Kusum Sinha participated in the race.
