New Delhi, Oct.11: Petrol prices reached new highs as rates were raised for the seventh day in a row on Monday. According to Indian Oil Corporation, petrol prices in the national capital were increased by 30 paise from Rs. 104.14 per litre to Rs.104.44 per litre, while diesel rates were increased by 35 paise from Rs.92.82 to Rs.93.17 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol prices surpassed the 110-mark after being raised by 29 paise to Rs.110.41 a litre, while diesel prices rose by 37 paise to Rs. 101.03 per litre. According to the state-run oil refiner, Mumbai has the highest fuel prices of the four metro cities. Because of the value-added tax, or VAT, fuel prices vary by state.

City Petrol Diesel
Delhi 104.44 93.17
Mumbai 110.12 101.03
Chennai 101.79 97.59
Kolkata 105.10 96.28

State-run oil refineries such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum adjust fuel prices on a daily basis, taking into account international crude oil prices and rupee-dollar exchange rates. Every day at 6 a.m., any adjustments in gasoline and diesel prices take effect.

Brent jumped 25 cents to $82.64 per barrel globally, while U.S. crude rose 41 cents to $79.76 per barrel.
