New Delhi, April 6: Today, petrol and diesel prices were both increased by 80 paise per litre, bringing the total increase to 10 per litre in 16 days.
According to a price announcement from state fuel retailers, petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs105.41 per litre, up from Rs104.61 yesterday, and diesel rates will rise from Rs 95.87 per litre to Rs 96.677.
Petrol will be sold for Rs 120.51 per litre in Mumbai, while diesel will be sold for Rs104.77 per litre.
Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, justified the fuel price hike on Tuesday, comparing it to that of other countries and claiming that India’s increase was only 5%.
Notably, fuel prices have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending upon the incidence of local taxation. This is the 14th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22.
