Ranchi, July 14: Buyers of the lighthouse project under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (urban) today created ruckus at the Ranchi Municipal Corporation office.
They took the action after a portion of the lighthouse under construction caved in due to rains on Sunday last raising doubts over the quality of the house where beneficiaries are expected to stay with their families.
They were seeking permission to visit the construction site to get the house project completed under their supervision or return of their advance amount they had paid to get a house at subsidized cost.
“The building has started collapsing before construction, so we want to go and review the construction work ourselves but authorities are not allowing it. Either the authority allows us to visit the site or return our advance,” said one of the agitating beneficiaries as others supported him.
RMC officials had a tough time convincing them as they were not ready to leave until they were allowed to visit the site.
Civic authorities had selected as many as 1008 beneficiaries under the scheme through a lottery system and it was expected that they would start getting houses from July 25 of this month.
Beneficiaries are expected to Rs 6.79 lakh only for each house worth Rs 13.29 lakh.
