ED asks Jharkhand govt to lodge FIR against ex-Ranchi DC, 9 others in Bajra land scam

Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked the Jharkhand Government to register an FIR against 10 persons, including ex-Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan for fraudulent transfer of 7.16 acres of land under Bajra Mauza of Hehal zone in the State capital.

According to sources, the ED has sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand under section 66(2) of the PMLA, asking him to register an FIR on the land of Bajra Mauza. ED on June 12.

The market value of 7.16 acres of Bajra Mouja’s land is Rs 32.87 crore. The ED has provisionally attached it.

Notably, during his tenure, the then DC of Ranchi, Chhavi Ranjan, had ordered the cancellation of 82-year-old jamabandi of 7.16 acres of Bajra Mauza land in Hehal zone. At the same time, declaring the plain panchnama prepared by the Circle Officer as correct, an order was given to carry out mutation in the name of Vinod Singh. After this, on the request of those who bought the land from Vinod Singh, 150 police personnel were deployed and the land was cordoned off. In this case, the then commissioner N M Kulkarni had recommended the government to take action against all those involved in the forgery, including the deputy commissioner. However, the government did not take any action against anyone.

The 10 accused, against whom the ED has filed a charge sheet in this case in the special court, include Chhavi Ranjan, Bhanu Pratap Prasad, revenue sub-inspector of Bargai circle, Pradeep Bagchi, a fake raiyat of army-occupied land, RIMS employee Afsar Ali, a resident of Millat Colony, Afsu Khan, Imtiyaz Ahmed, resident of Mani Tola of Doranda, Mohammad Saddam Hussain, resident of Badagain, Talha Khan, Fayaz Ahmed, Dilip Ghosh and Amit Agarwal, directors of Jagatbandhu Tea Estate.
