New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his two-day Japan visit on Saturday and departed for China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. In a post on X, the PM thanked his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, noting that the visit delivered “productive outcomes” that would benefit both nations.

Key Agreements And Announcements

During the trip, India and Japan signed six agreements, seven MoUs, and made eight new announcements. One of the most significant was Japan’s commitment of JPY 10 trillion in private investment into India over the next decade. PM Modi also travelled from Tokyo to Sendai in a bullet train with his Japanese counterpart, symbolising cooperation in high-speed rail technology. At the India-Japan economic forum, PM Modi pitched collaboration in manufacturing, innovation, green energy, and skill development, stating that “Japan’s excellence and India’s scale can create a perfect partnership.”

Meetings With Leaders And Former PMs

The Prime Minister also met governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo, urging deeper state-prefecture ties under the special strategic and global partnership. He further held meetings with former Japanese prime ministers Yoshihide Suga and Fumio Kishida. Modi and Suga discussed expanding cooperation in technology, AI, trade, and investment, while Kishida reaffirmed support for India-Japan ties.

Next Stop: China For SCO Summit

PM Modi is now en route to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, where discussions will focus on regional security, economic cooperation, and global geopolitical issues. The move highlights India’s balancing act of strengthening bilateral ties with Japan while simultaneously engaging in multilateral platforms with China.
