New Delhi, June 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, on receiving the Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star, the highest civilian honour in Suriname.
The Surinamese government and people’s particular gesture, according to the prime minister, represents the two nations’ enduring relationship.
The PM said in a tweet, “Congratulations to Rashtrapati Ji on being conferred the highest civilian award of Suriname – Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star. This special gesture from the Government and people of Suriname symbolizes the enduring friendship between our countries”.

President Murmu was given the Grand Order of the Chain of Yellow Star, the highest civilian honour bestowed by Suriname, on Monday. She is the first Indian to get this honour.
Chandrikapersad Santokhi, the president of the Republic of Suriname, presented the award to President Murmu. President Murmu stated that the accolade has great significance for both her and the Indian people after accepting the honour.
The President of India said in a tweet, “I am greatly honoured to receive Suriname’s highest distinction, “Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star.” This recognition holds tremendous significance, not only for me but also for the 1.4 billion people of India whom I represent”.

The “successive generations” of the Indian-Surinamese community were honoured in her dedication of the prize.
She also added, “I also dedicate this honour to the successive generations of the Indian-Surinamese community, who have played a stellar role in enriching the fraternal ties between our two countries”.
