Dibrugarh, April 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and businessman Ratan Tata on Thursday inaugurated seven state-of-the-art cancer hospitals and lay the foundation stone for seven more.
“Today, 7 new cancer hospitals have been inaugurated in Assam. There was a time, even one hospital getting opened up in 7 years was a thing to celebrate. Times have changed now. I have been told 3 more cancer hospitals will be ready for your service in a few months,” said PM Modi.
The Prime Minister noted at the ceremony in Dibrugarh that his government has also focused on preventative healthcare through yoga, fitness, and cleanliness.

“Hospitals are at your service but I will be happy if these new hospitals remain empty; I pray for your health… our govt has also focussed on preventive healthcare with yoga, fitness, ‘swachhata’. New testing centers are being opened up in the country,” he said.
Ratan Tata said, “I dedicate my last years to health. Make Assam a state that recognizes and is recognized by all.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Ratan Tata and the Indian government for their support, saying that the world’s largest cancer treatment will assist Assam and Southeast Asia. With 17 cancer care institutions distributed across the state, the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint venture of the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts, is working on a mission to develop South Asia’s biggest affordable cancer care network.
Seven of the ten hospitals built as part of Phase 1 of the project have been completed, while three others are in various stages of construction. The project’s second phase will see the development of seven additional cancer hospitals.
The Prime Minister dedicated seven cancer hospitals completed under phase 1 of the project to the country today in Dibrugarh. Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, and Jorhat have all developed cancer hospitals. The Prime Minister lay the foundation stone for phase 2 of the project, which will see seven new cancer hospitals built in Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, and Golaghat.
