New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today criticized Congress for undermining the democratic process, accusing the party of disrupting Parliament despite being repeatedly rejected by the public. Speaking before the start of the winter session, PM Modi emphasized the importance of healthy discussions in Parliament and expressed hope for meaningful debates.
“Some people who have been rejected by the public are constantly trying to dominate Parliament through disruptive tactics. The country observes their actions, and when the time comes, they respond appropriately,” PM Modi remarked, alluding to Congress’s performance following the BJP-led Mahayuti’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister added, “Those who have been rejected 80-90 times by the people continue to prevent discussions in Parliament.”
The BJP-led Mahayuti coalition won a staggering 235 seats in Maharashtra, leaving the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) with only 49 seats in the 288-member assembly.
Stressing the importance of the winter session, PM Modi noted, “Parliament and its members are integral to the Constitution. Healthy discussions in Parliament are essential, and active participation from all members is crucial.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the session’s significance as it marks the beginning of the 75th year of the Constitution’s adoption.
Amid speculation, the government is expected to table the ‘One Nation One Election’ bill during this session, slated to run until December 20. PM Modi had recently reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the proposal, underlining its potential to streamline the electoral process.
Other legislative discussions on the agenda include the Waqf Amendment Bill, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, and the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill. Additionally, a bill to amend the Railway Act is set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha.
