Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive election rally in Srinagar on Thursday, September 19, where he took aim at the Congress, National Conference (NC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the parties of failing the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to their dynastic rule. The rally came a day after the first phase of voting for 24 out of 90 Assembly seats in the Union Territory.
Speaking to the enthusiastic crowd, PM Modi vowed to bring about a “Naya Kashmir” and pledged not to let the future of the region be controlled by the “teen khandaan” (three families) — a reference to the Congress, NC, and PDP. He emphasized the importance of reclaiming “Jamuriat” (democracy) and “Kashmiriat” (the spirit of Kashmir).
Key Quotes from PM Modi’s Speech in Srinagar:
- A New Kashmir: “You have come in large numbers today. This enthusiasm of the youth, the message of peace in the eyes of the elders, and the participation of mothers and sisters in large numbers… this is the new Kashmir.”
- Peaceful Voting: “The first round of voting took place in seven districts yesterday. For the first time, voting was conducted without the shadow of terrorism. It is a moment of great pride that so many people came out to vote.”
- Criticism of Dynastic Rule: “During my recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, I emphasized that three influential families [Congress, NC, and PDP] are responsible for the region’s decline. These families believe they have an inherent right to power and have offered nothing but chaos and fear.”
- Commitment to a Better Future: “I will not allow another generation to be destroyed at the hands of these three families. Today, schools and colleges are running peacefully, and children have pens, books, and laptops in their hands. New schools, colleges, AIIMS, medical colleges, and IITs are being built, ensuring the future of Jammu and Kashmir.”
- End of Dynastic Politics: “These families have treated the politics of Jammu and Kashmir as their fiefdom. They didn’t allow others to come forward. Why else did they block the elections of Panchayats, Block Development Councils, and District Development Councils?”
The rally was marked by PM Modi’s emphasis on the positive voter turnout in the first phase of elections, with the Prime Minister thanking the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their participation. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring a safer, more prosperous region under his leadership.
