Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 at 11 AM on 1st October 2021, at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, with an outlay of Rs 1.41 lakh crore will focus on sludge management, wastewater treatment, source segregation of garbage, reduction in single-use plastics and control of air pollution by waste management in construction and demolition.
The SBM (U) flagship mission of the government has completed seven years with a mission allocation of Rs 14,013 crore. The objectives of SBM-U are to make the entire urban India Open Defecation Free (ODF) and 100% management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated.
AMRUT 2.0 aims to provide 100% coverage of water supply to all households in around 4,700 urban local bodies by providing about 2.68 crore tap connections and 100% coverage of sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities by providing around 2.64 crore sewer/ septage connections, which will benefit more than 10.5 crore people in urban areas. AMRUT 2.0 will adopt the principles of circular economy and promote conservation and rejuvenation of surface and groundwater bodies. The Mission will promote data-led governance in water management and Technology Sub-Mission to leverage the latest global technologies and skills. ‘Pey Jal Survekshan’ will be conducted to promote progressive competition among cities. The outlay of AMRUT 2.0 is around ?2.87 lakh crore.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is the first focused national water Mission and was first launched in June 2015 in 500 cities covering 60% of the urban population. All cities having a population above 1 lakh are covered. AMRUT Mission has addressed the requirements of basic social infrastructure. Under AMRUT, 1,831 parks over 3,700 acres have been developed, and 85 lakh street lights have been replaced, resulting in energy savings of 185.33 crore units. The ministry of urban affairs says there is an 8-fold increase in the expenditure on urban development over the past six years (2015-2021), about Rs 11.83L cr against the Rs 1.57L cr from 2004 to 2014.
Union Minister and MoS for Housing & Urban Affairs and Ministers of Urban Development of States & UTs will also be present on the occasion.
