New Delhi, March 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the phone today.
PM Modi is expected to raise the issue of Indian students and nationals being evacuated from the war-torn country. On the other hand, President Zelenskyy is expected to brief Prime Minister Modi on the situation in Ukraine.
This is not, however, the first time the two chiefs of state have spoken on the phone. Modi and Zelenskyy spoke over the phone on February 26, just hours after India abstained from voting on a UN Security Council resolution in which the US “strongly condemns” Russia’s “aggression” against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv continued its efforts on Sunday to rescue more than 700 Indian students who were stranded in Sumy, Ukraine’s northeastern city. Due to heavy shelling and airstrikes in the area, these attempts found little success.
