Daman, April 25: The NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in Silvassa, in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
He inspected campus facilities after officially opening the Union Territory’s first medical college.
The prime minister also spoke with workers employed in building the college complex.
Praful Patel, the Union Territory’s chief executive, was with him.
Modi travelled from Kerala earlier in the day and arrived at Silvassa, the district’s capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The medical college complex, which cost Rs 203 crore to build, includes a multi-story library, an academic building with four lecture rooms and an auditorium, a club house, faculty housing, student hostels, as well as outdoor and indoor sports facilities.
Later, PM Modi is scheduled to speak to a crowd in Sayli village, close to Silvassa, and inaugurate or lay the foundations for a number of projects in the Union Territory.
He would arrive in Daman town in the evening and do a 16-kilometer tour along a recently constructed coastal route.
