Mumbai, April 4: In the money laundering case involving underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, which is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, a special PMLA court on Monday prolonged judicial custody of State Minister Nawab Malik (ED).

Malik had already petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn a Bombay High Court ruling rejecting his appeal for release from judicial prison in the money laundering case.

The interim petitions sought by Malik in a Habeas Corpus petition seeking his release during the pendency of the petition were dismissed by a Bombay High Court bench of Justices Prasanna B Varale and Shriram M Modak on March 15.

“As certain debatable issues are raised, these issues are to be heard at length. Considering the grounds assigned, we are not inclined to grant reliefs in interim application,” the High Court said.

Malik had attacked the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), his arrest, and his remand in a plea filed through Rashmikant & Partners, calling them all illegal. He claimed that his continuing arrest was unconstitutional and without jurisdiction, and that he was entitled to a writ of habeas corpus and immediate release.
