Ranchi: The special PMLA court will now hear Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s discharge petition in the 8.86-acre land case on May 22, after his legal team sought time to file a counter-response to the written arguments submitted by the ED.
Why the Date Was Deferred
Both sides had completed their oral arguments before the ED court on May 2. However, Hemant Soren’s side requested additional time to respond to the ED’s written submissions, following which the court fixed May 22 as the next date of hearing. The court is now expected to frame charges against the accused in the matter.
What the Case Is About
Hemant Soren had filed a discharge petition in court on December 5, 2025, seeking to be discharged from the case and declaring himself innocent. The ED had conducted multiple raids in connection with this case and summoned several individuals for questioning. A chargesheet has been filed by the ED against nearly one and a half dozen people in the matter.
