Ranchi, Nov.3: As many as 12 gamblers were arrested from Dhurwa area during night-long operation against them in the wake of Deepawali.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhurwa police station Praveen Kumar informed that the arrest took place from two locations, Damside and Nurse Colony.

“An amount of Rs 9000 (approx) besides playing cards being used for gambling were seized from their possession. All belong to poor family backgrounds. As arrests took place from two places two FIRs have been registered in this connection,” OC Kumar said.

Asked about the further legal action, OC Kumar said: “Those arrested will be granted bail from the police station as the crime is bailable under IPC sections. The intention behind the action is not to harass any poor but to give them a message to restrain themselves from gambling on the occasion of Deepawali.”
