Ranchi, Oct.30: Police arrested one of the drug peddlers active around the Observation Home in Durmadaga, where children in conflict of law are kept and the Juvenile Justice Board is run.

The breakthrough came in the afternoon when the drug peddler attempted to throw a packet containing 18 packets of marijuana besides tobacco and tobacco products.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar police station, Shyam Kishore Mahto, confirmed the arrest saying the accused was identified as Sahil Singh, a resident of Chuna Bhatta in Kokar. “Accused is 21 years old. He was accompanied by one more who escaped after he noticed policemen deputed for the security of observation home,” Mahto said.

“An FIR has been registered in this case and the accused is being produced before the court for further legal action,” OC Mahto added.

Asked how come the drug peddler dared to throw drug items in broad daylight, OC Mahto said: “During day hours several parents come to see their children in conflict with law and security personnel become engaged in frisking them. Drug peddlers attempted to take advantage of the situation.”

The security of the observation home has always been a matter of concern for the administration. Many times children in conflict with law have escaped taking advantage of security lapses.
