Jamshedpur Jan 13: Police on Thursday arrested a 32-year-old man who was absconding after committing murder of Biru Mahali in Sonari in February 2016.
The murderer identified as Payen Gorai was arrested from Lagadera village in Ghatshila, about 60 kms away from here where he worked as a labourer.
A team of Sonari police today brought Gorai to Jamshedpur and sent him to Ghaghidih Central Jail after being produced before a judicial magistrate.
According to police, Gorai and six others had bludgeoned Biru Mahali to death at Villash Bustee in Sonari on the night of February 11, 2016. The murder was committed in sequel to a gang-war. Police had arrested six persons in connection to the murder but Gorai had absconded.
According to police, having fled from the steel city, Gorai had taken shelter at Ghatshila where he used to work as a labourer while staying at a rented house in Lagadera village.
The police said the murderer had also married a local girl during this period having concealed his identity.
Ghatshila thana OC Shambhu Gupta said a team of police officials had come to Ghatshila in connection with an abduction case on Wednesday.
“The police team along with the Ghatshila police had searched for the abductor, but having got no breakthrough on Wednesday, the team members overstayed there. Incidentally, some villagers of Lagadera village had tipped off about Gorai in the night leading us to arrest the murderer, ” said Gupta.
According to the Ghatshila thana OC, Gorai’s wife was ignorant about his background and she came to know about his real identity when the police arrested him.
