Ranchi, Aug.20: Security personnel during their operation against Maoists in Burha Pahar so far unearthed many landmines and diffused them successfully.

A police official in Garhwa informed this saying that the localities from where the land mines were recovered are Thaliya and Tisia forests of the Burha Pahar. So far there is no report or any encounter and arresting, the official said.

Expressing his inability to share much details regarding the operation and breakthrough he said the security personnel are moving strategically taking all precautions and there is every possibility of major breakthrough at any moment.

“There are as many as 40 companies which are participating in the operation. In the companies there are CoBRA jawans, Jaguar Assault Group and CRPF personnel besides JAP and IRB constables and officers. While the CRPF, JAP and IRB have cordoned off the area, Cobras and Jaguars are moving to strike the Maoists,” the police official said.

The official said that it is a decisive battle which is being fought with Maoists on Burha Pahar after a gap of four years.

“The Naxalites, who once had their influence in about 800 villages of Garhwa and were active with armed squad, have now been limited only to the Badgad block on Burha Pahar and now there is every possibility to liberate the hills from Maoists,” the police official said.

Another police official supported the situation saying that the operation is tough as Budha Pahar is situated on the Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh border. Being a geographically difficult terrain, it is difficult to take each step as Maoists having better knowledge of the area can ambush from any hidden location, the police official said.

The police official explaining the geography said that a large portion of Budha Pahar falls in Chhattisgarh while some parts come under Latehar district and Garhwa district of Jharkhand. Naxalites keep on carrying out incidents in other areas, keeping their eyes from the police, the official said.
