The steps that the SP (Rural) Mukesh Lunayat has taken include beefing up of the CCTV cameras installed in and outside banks, petrol pumps and other business establishments, identifying escape routes, verification of the private security guards’ background, verification of any contractual worker engaged in banks and making dossier of the notorious criminals of the areas.
“I am in the process of carrying out an audit anti-crime mechanism in the rural areas of the district, the purpose behind the initiative to prevent any major crime from taking place in my area and if any such crime takes, it must be detected soon, ” said Lukayat while talking to lagatar24.com.
He informed that the initiative has also started yielding result as a loot at a liquor shop in Potka thana area on Thursday night involving lakhs of rupees was detected within half-an-hour of the crime taken place.
The Rural SP said in all 19 police stations fall in the rural areas of the district and the OCs of all the police stations have been instructed to work during a situation when any majority crime may take place.
“As the escape convenient routes from the point of any business establishment have been identified meticulously, the criminal may hardly escape in the event of police officials concerned swinging into action in accordance with the given instructions, ” said the senior police officer.
He pointed out the OC of any police station should understand where to put up an anti-crime checking point when some big crime takes place in his area.
Lukayat stated that though he had started this special initiative about a week before the major bank robbery took place in Mango, this step assumes much significance now as the gangs that have succeeded to commit two major crime in the city durga the past six months may target any place in the rural area also.
The criminals had on August 18 robbed Rs 33.5 lakhs cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 80 lakhs from Bank of India’s Ulidih branch in Mango. Earlier, on February 14 this year armed criminals had looted Rs 32 lakhs from near Canera Bank at Bistupur, considered to be the heart of the city.
But the police have so far failed to detect either of these major crimes taken place first during the tenure of senior SP, M Tamil Vanan and now under the captaincy of senior SP, Prabhat Kumar.
What is worse none of the senior police officers is interested to talk if there is any progress in the investigation into the Ulidih bank robbery case.
