Deoghar, Aug 6: In a unique move, the Deoghar postal department is selling national flags at people’s doorsteps as a part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.” The postmen have been handed over the task to sell the flags to people they visit to deliver letters, rakhis among other things.

According to instructions given by the higher authority, every postman is given at least ten flags every day to offer the recipient of postal material by him apart from setting up stalls at the post offices. However, the postmen have been instructed to only offer people to buy the flags and not to pressurize anyone.

The postal department has already sold over 4,000 Tirangas within the first two days of this initiative.

Talking to Lagatar24.com correspondent, the chief postmaster of the main post office in Deoghar, Rajendra Barnwal, said that the department has been provided with 8,000 pieces of flags.

The chief postmaster claimed that there is a good response in the district. According to him, not only people are demanding the flags but the department also has received orders to supply them in bulk.

Many institutions like DAV schools and private B Ed colleges have given the order for flags in large numbers. After receiving bulk orders from institutions, the department has ordered 10,000 more pieces of flags.

A customer Anil Jha, a resident of Deoghar, appreciated the initiative taken by the postal department and said that he had come to the post office to post Rakhi but after seeing the stall, he couldn’t stop himself and bought a Tiranga.
