Mumbai, April 2: Prabhakar Sail, an independent witness in the 2021 Mumbai cruise drug case, died of a heart attack on Friday afternoon (April 1) in his rented apartment in Mahul.

New agency ANI reported on Saturday that Sail was at home when he died, according to his lawyer Tushar Khandare, who also stated that the family did not suspect foul play in his death.

Sail is survived by his mother, wife, and two children, and the family had chosen to postpone the cremation until his brothers arrived from village.

In the Cordelia cruise drug case, Sail was the personal security guard of another witness, KP Gosawi, in which Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was the first to be detained. Gosawi, on the other hand, had shared a photo of himself with Aryan, even pulling his hand and leading him to the NCB office.

Nawab Malik, a Maharashtra cabinet minister, questioned the issue of a private individual like Gosawi being called as a witness in the case, asking what Gosawi was doing hauling Aryan into the NCB office.

Aryan Khan was arrested from the cruise in early October last year in connection with a drugs investigation. The Bombay High Court granted him the bail on October 28 after multiple court hearings and 26 days in detention.

On October 30, he was ultimately released from prison.
