New Delhi, Dec 20: Diplomat Pradeep Kumar Rawat is appointed as the India’s next Ambassador to China, informed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday.

At present, Rawat, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 1990 batch, is serving as the Indian ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and now has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the people’s republic Of China. In a statement, the MEA said Rawat is expected to take up the new assignment shortly.
Notably, Mr Rawat will succeed Vikram Misri and his appointment comes in the midst of the lingering eastern Ladakh border standoff.
He has spent the majority of his diplomatic career handling Beijing from Delhi and was the joint secretary from 2014 to 2017. Rawat is the envoy to the Netherlands since 2021 and had served as ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor-Leste from September 2017 to December 2020.
