New Delhi, July 28: Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will travel to India next week to assess the development of their extensive collaboration.
Solih will meet President Droupadi Murmu and speak with Prime Minister Narendra Modi while in India.
Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also meet with the President of the Maldives.
“Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will pay an official visit to India from August 1-4. President Solih will be accompanied by high-level officials and a business delegation. During the visit, President Solih will meet the President of India and hold talks with the Prime Minister. External Affairs Minister will call on President Solih,” said Bagchi.
The MEA official pointed out that the Maldives holds a significant place in the nation’s Neighbourhood First strategy and is India’s principal neighbour in the Indian Ocean.
The Maldives has traditionally been a close and significant maritime neighbour for India. Despite the inconveniences caused by the pandemic, the two countries’ numerous relationships have grown stronger.
