New Delhi, June 22: NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu received ‘Z plus’ security protection on Wednesday from the Centre, according to officials.
Notably, the second-highest degree of security protection offered by the Central government is ‘Z Plus’ security cover.
On Tuesday night, the BJP-led NDA named Droupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate. In the meantime, Yashwant Sinha, a former union minister, was chosen to run as a joint opponent in the upcoming presidential elections.
Droupadi Murmu, a Santhal by birth, started her political career in 1997 as a councillor in Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She advanced through the ranks to become an Odisha government minister in 2000 and then the governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
Droupadi Murmu, a two-term former Rairangpur MLA, kept her assembly seat in 2009 despite the BJD severing ties with the BJP weeks before the state polls, which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik easily won. In addition, Droupadi Murmu made history by becoming Jharkhand’s first female governor.
