New Delhi, July 1: Shiromani Akali Dal today declared its support for NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu, 21 months after severing ties with the BJP.

“Despite our differences with BJP over farm laws, issue of release of imprisoned Sikhs, and others, we have decided to back their candidate,” said party president Sukhbir Badal.

As the great old party ‘attacked the Golden Temple’ and resulted in ‘thousands of Sikhs slaughtered,’ Badal claimed that his party could never back or endorse a candidate put forth by Congress.

“Akali Dal has always supported people from marginalised sections of society. It’s our responsibility to support people from the weakest sections of society,” he added.

The Akali president continued by listing a number of complaints the party has with the BJP and said that the party is putting them aside since a woman from a poor family is having the chance to become the nation’s president.

Badal claimed that JP Nadda, the head of the BJP, had called to solicit his support in the approaching Presidential elections.
