New Delhi, Aug 5: While protesting against unemployment and rising prices today outside the Congress party headquarters in Delhi, the police detained Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders.

She had earlier scaled barricades to get to the location where she briefly staged a sit-in before being carried away by police. She was wearing black like other party officials as a symbol of protest.

A short while before she was detained, Rahul Gandhi, a Congressman, was also taken into custody.

Sonia Gandhi, the party’s leader, and Rahul Gandhi led a group of Congress MPs to Parliament as they were dressed in black in preparation for a planned march to Rashtrapati Bhavan and a “gherao” of the Prime Minister’s residence. As Congress members erupted in outrage over the alleged abuse of inquiry agencies by the administration, Rajya Sabha proceedings were suspended.

Notably, Congress staged widespread rallies on Friday against a number of problems, criticising the BJP for the nation’s unemployment and inflation. Workers at the party’s headquarters in Delhi were seen protesting despite showers, and similar unrest was also seen in Mumbai Assam, Bihar and other states.
