New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra officially filed her nomination for the Wayanad by-poll on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who previously represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha. When asked whether Priyanka would make a better MP for Wayanad than himself, Rahul Gandhi responded with humor and affection, saying, “It’s a tough question,” before quickly adding, “I don’t think so,” while chuckling along with Priyanka and other Congress party members on their campaign bus.
In a light-hearted video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the brother-sister duo can be seen engaging in a candid conversation about Wayanad. Priyanka teased Rahul, asking him about the expression on his face, to which Rahul replied, “I will miss Wayanad, that’s the face I’m making.”
When pressed on who he would choose as Wayanad’s MP other than himself, Rahul wholeheartedly endorsed Priyanka, saying, “Not because I like her or because I love her very much, but because she will actually do a good job. She has many qualities, she goes into a lot of detail, and she is my sister.”
Continuing the Wayanad Connection
Priyanka, recognizing the deep bond Rahul shares with the people of Wayanad, expressed her hopes to maintain and strengthen that relationship. She said, “I hope to be able to continue that bond with them.”
Rahul praised his sister’s dedication and passion, stating, “If she likes you, she will do whatever it takes—beyond anything you can imagine. She’s also going to like Wayanad a lot. A huge part of being a good MP is liking the people and the place you work for. She is going to like it.”
A Special Relationship with Wayanad
Rahul Gandhi had won both the Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but he chose to retain Rae Bareli, leaving Wayanad for his sister to contest. He expressed his deep connection with the constituency and urged voters to support Priyanka, saying, “What Wayanad has done for me cannot be expressed in words. When feelings are really deep, the only way to express them is through action.”
In a show of unity and commitment, Rahul reminded the people of Wayanad that they now have two MPs representing them: “Wayanad is the only constituency in the country that has two MPs—one official and one unofficial—and they will work together to protect the interests of the people of Wayanad.”
