New Delhi: The disengagement process between Indian and Chinese forces in the strategically vital regions of Depsang and Demchok is approaching completion, as confirmed by defence officials. According to ANI, both sides are now verifying the vacated positions and removal of infrastructure as part of the final stages of disengagement. Coordinated patrolling is expected to begin once this verification is completed, likely commencing on October 30.

“In accordance with the recent resolutions on border issues, the Chinese and Indian frontier troops are engaged in relevant work, progressing smoothly at present,” stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, confirming the movement of troops. This agreement, announced by India on October 21, aims to restore the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to pre-April 2020 conditions, prior to Chinese military aggression in eastern Ladakh.

Diplomatic Engagements and New Patrolling Arrangements

The announcement follows high-level diplomatic engagements, including a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia. Both leaders welcomed the new patrolling arrangements as a step toward easing the four-year-long standoff at the LAC.

Shifting Dynamics in India-China Relations

The prolonged border standoff, sparked by Chinese incursions in 2020, has strained relations between the two nations. However, the latest developments reflect a tentative shift towards stability and mutual cooperation along the contested border as both countries implement the patrolling agreement and de-escalation measures.
