Ramgarh, June 9: A district-level workshop was organized under the chairmanship of DC Madhavi Mishra in the collectorate hall on Friday under the ‘Chuppi Todo Swasth Raho’ (Break the Silence and Stay Healthy) campaign.
The importance of the ‘Break the Silence and Stay Healthy’ campaign was first highlighted through a PPT presentation by Nirbhay Kumar from Devnet, a subsidiary organization of UNICEF. Along with this, information was also given about the measures of cleanliness and waste management through the campaign to break the silence and stay healthy.
The DC said that menstruation is such a process that all girls and women have to go through. Due to a lack of awareness, girls and women in rural areas as well as in urban areas have to face many diseases/infections. Even at present, people refrain from talking about this, while neglecting hygiene during menstruation can take a serious form in the future. She said that in order to remove the misconceptions related to menstruation and for awareness, it is very important that first of all people should openly talk about it. On the occasion, she asked the Panchayati Raj, Social Welfare, Health, JSLPS, Education Block Development Officers etc present in the meeting to work in coordination with each other and remove the misconceptions related to menstruation among the people by using various mediums at the ground level. Necessary instructions were given regarding the cleanliness of clothes used during menstruation and the execution of sanitary pads as per the rules and to make people aware.
The DC said that if the sanitary pads used during menstruation are thrown in the open or not disposed of properly, it takes more than 500 years for the pad to get completely destroyed. Proper disposal of sanitary pads used during menstruation is also very important for environmental protection. For this, she gave necessary instructions to the officials of the Education Department regarding working in a planned manner to give information about various topics related to menstruation to girls from the very beginning and to make them aware.
During the meeting, officers present in the meeting along with the DC discussed the work done in the district till June 12 and the programmes to be organized in rural and remote areas under the ‘Stay Healthy’ campaign by the Executive Engineer, Drinking Water and Sanitation Division During the same workshop, all the officers present including others were administered menstrual hygiene oath by the DC.
