Charanjit Singh Channi has taken oath as Punjab’s new Chief Minister. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni also took oath as Deputy CM with him. Interestingly, for the first time in Punjab, 2 Deputy CMs have been made. The swearing-in ceremony was to be held at 11 am but there was a delay of 22 minutes in the wait for Rahul Gandhi. But forced to give up the chief minister’s chair, Captain Amarinder Singh did not attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Charanjit Channi has created a history by becoming the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab. At the same time, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa from JattSikh community and OP Soni as a Hindu leader have been made Deputy CM. Earlier the name of Brahma Mohindra was announced in place of Soni. Mohindra is from the Captain Group, so he was replaced at the last minute.
Channi managed to get the CM’s chair with the support of Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu, as the chair fell vacant after the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh. The cabinet will be monitored after Charanjit Channi oath.
Till now,Channi has been the Minister of Technical Education till now. But it is not clear yet which ministry will he have now. But in this political battle, the biggest question is who will become the minister and whose card will be cut from among the ministers of the Captain Government.
Congress has played the Dalit card after Channi became CM. In such a situation, the return of Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has become difficult. He is accused of scam in the post matric scholarship of Dalit students.
The promises made by the opponents in Punjab after the elections, have just been fulfilled by the Congress. When BJP called Dalit CM, Congress made Charanjit Channi. Akali Dal had talked about making one Hindu and one Dalit as Deputy CM. Congress broke it by making Hindu and Jatt Sikh Deputy CM. Now a new challenge has arisen in front of the opponents to form the government in Punjab.
