Jamshedpur, Sept 22: Three radial gates of Dimna lake dam were opened on Wednesday due to the rising water level of Dimna lake.
Continuous showers for the last few days resulted in a rising water level of the Dimna lake, which supplies drinking water to the entire steel city.
Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited ( formerly Jusco ) looks after the maintenance and upkeep of the scenic Dimna lake, an artificial water reservoir set up by Tata Steel and functioning since 1941.
Sources in Jusco, a Tata Steel subsidiary said that the radial gates of the dam were opened after six years.
Notably, drains have been constructed so that water released from the dam flows through them. This reduces the risk of nearby villages getting inundated.
The steel city and other parts of Kolhan region have been experiencing a good shower show during the last 72 hours, due to the impact of a cyclonic circulation originating from the Bay of Bengal.
Jamshedpur recorded heavy rain of over 90 mm during the past 24 hours.
