Patna: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alleged on Thursday that the NDA-led “double engine” Bihar government prevented him from meeting Dalit and backward students at the Ambedkar Welfare Hostel in Darbhanga. His statement followed after local administration imposed Section 144 at the hostel premises and denied permission for the interaction.
Denied permission, Rahul meets students anyway
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Darbhanga to a grand welcome by Congress workers at the airport. However, before his scheduled visit to the hostel, district officials declared the location restricted under prohibitory orders. The administration instead granted permission for a Town Hall event. Despite this, Rahul proceeded to Mogalpura’s Ambedkar Hostel and held an informal conversation with the students.
“You are silenced, I came to hear you”
During his interaction, Rahul Gandhi told the students, “I came from Delhi to meet you. No one could stop me because of your strength.” He discussed issues of student oppression, government suppression, and alleged paper leaks in exams, saying these tactics were used to keep marginalized voices unheard.
Rahul slams Nitish Kumar in social media post
After leaving for Patna, Rahul shared a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the Bihar government and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of attempting to block democratic dialogue. “Since when did conversation become a crime?” he wrote, adding, “Nitish ji, what are you afraid of? Are you trying to hide the state of education and social justice in Bihar?”
