Pachmarhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission of using the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists to “cover up and institutionalise vote theft.” Speaking to reporters in Madhya Pradesh’s Pachmarhi, Gandhi alleged that large-scale electoral manipulation occurred not just in Haryana but also in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.
Rahul Gandhi Questions Credibility Of Electoral Process
Gandhi claimed that around 25 lakh fake votes were found in Haryana’s voter list, which he described as “1 in every 8 votes stolen.” He suggested that the same pattern of fraud existed in other states and blamed what he called the “joint partnership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for undermining India’s democracy.
Gandhi asserted that his team has collected “detailed information” on the alleged manipulation and will gradually release more evidence. “My issue is that democracy and Ambedkar’s Constitution are under attack. This SIR process is not for cleaning voter lists — it’s meant to institutionalise vote theft,” he said.
Election Commission Rejects Allegations
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has dismissed Gandhi’s accusations as baseless, stating that no formal objections were filed regarding the electoral rolls in Haryana and that no evidence of multiple voting was reported. The Commission clarified that the SIR exercise, which began on November 4, aims to clean up and update voter rolls across nine states and three Union Territories, involving over 51 crore voters.
For the revision, the ECI has deployed 5.3 lakh booth-level officers (BLOs), 10,448 electoral registration officers, and 7.64 lakh booth-level agents from political parties. The draft rolls are set to be published on December 9, and the final list will be released on February 7, 2026.
