Patna: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited Bihar on Friday, addressing a massive gathering at the Constitution Protection Conference in Rajgir. He launched a sharp attack on the Modi government, alleging that it would never conduct a real caste census because “the day that happens, their politics will be over.”
Key Highlights from Rahul Gandhi’s Address:
🗣 On Caste Census
Rahul asserted:
“Modi claims he’s OBC, but denies the existence of caste. If there’s no caste, how is he OBC?”
He accused the BJP of misleading the country and avoiding a real caste-based survey because it would expose power imbalances. According to him, BJP’s version of the caste census was limited, secretive, and excluded 90% of the population.
🧑⚖️ “Who Holds the Power?”
Rahul highlighted disparities in power and representation:
90% of the population consists of backward, extremely backward, and Dalit communities. But they control less than 5% of political and economic resources. He challenged listeners to name a Dalit or OBC CEO in India’s top 500 corporations. “Look at private hospitals, corporate boardrooms, and elite colleges – there are hardly any names from backward classes,” he said.
🧾 On Modi & Adani
Referring to Modi’s foreign relations, Rahul claimed:
“Donald Trump has said 11 times that he made Narendra Modi surrender, and Modi hasn’t denied it once.”
He accused the PM of “surrendering the country’s interests” for a few individuals like Adani and criticized his silence on controversial deals and corporate favoritism.
🏛 Congress’ Model in Telangana
Rahul contrasted BJP’s approach with the Congress-led caste survey in Telangana, stating:
Over 3 lakh people participated in drafting the questions. The process involved open consultations with communities, associations, and local representatives. “It’s the people’s census, not the bureaucracy’s,” he said.
🧑🌾 Economic and Social Injustice
Rahul raised issues of privatization in education and healthcare, highlighting that most ownership remains with a privileged few:
“Even budget planning is done by 11 bureaucrats – not one from the 90%.”
He said India is seeing systemic exclusion, and the lack of representation is intentional, maintained through elite control of ministries, courts, and institutions.
