Ranchi: The newly inaugurated Kartik Oraon Flyover at Sirmatoli, Ranchi, has quickly become a landmark for the city, showcasing a unique blend of aesthetic design and modern technology. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the flyover is designed not just to ease traffic but also to enhance the quality of life for nearby residents through thoughtful innovations.
Key Highlights of the Flyover:
1. Noise-Reduction Innovation
A 1.6-meter high soundproof crash barrier has been installed along the flyover railings to reduce vehicle noise. This thoughtful feature ensures a quieter environment for residents living in adjacent areas, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Jharkhand.
2. Spectacular Lighting System
The flyover features tri-color lighting that changes every three minutes, reflecting the spirit of the national flag. Double-arm lights are installed every 30 meters to ensure seamless night-time visibility. High-mast lights have been installed at six major points: Mecon Golambar, Devendra Manjhi Chowk, Rajendra Chowk, Nepal House Mode, Patel Chowk, and Sirmatoli Chowk, bathing the area in bright, ambient lighting.
3. Engineering Feat Over Railway Lines
To construct the bridge section over the railway track, train operations were halted for 238 hours—a significant engineering and logistical effort to ensure smooth, safe construction.
4. Construction Timeline
The flyover took 2 years, 9 months, and 16 days to complete. The foundation was laid on August 19, 2022, and it officially opened to the public on June 5, 2025. It connects some of the city’s busiest intersections—Sirmatoli, Patel Chowk, Rajendra Chowk, Nepal House Mode, and Mecon Golambar—offering huge relief from traffic congestion.
