New Delhi: A political storm has erupted within the Congress after senior leader Digvijaya Singh publicly praised the organisational strength of the RSS and BJP, drawing criticism from party leaders and a sharp yet light-hearted remark from Rahul Gandhi himself.

Rahul Gandhi’s Sarcastic Remark Sparks Laughter

During an interaction at the Congress headquarters, Rahul Gandhi greeted Digvijaya Singh and jokingly remarked, “You caused some mischief yesterday,” referring to Singh’s controversial statement. The comment, made in a lighter tone, drew laughter from leaders present, including Sonia Gandhi, highlighting internal discomfort but also an attempt to defuse tension.

What Triggered the Controversy

The issue stems from a post by Digvijaya Singh ahead of the Congress Working Committee meeting, where he shared an old photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with BJP veteran L.K. Advani. Singh praised how an RSS grassroots worker rose to become Chief Minister and Prime Minister, calling it a testament to organisational strength. Though he later clarified that he opposes the ideology of the RSS and BJP and was only acknowledging organisational capability, the remark unsettled the party.

Congress Leaders Push Back Strongly

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera countered the statement by asserting that the party does not need to learn from what he called “Godse’s organisation.” Party president Mallikarjun Kharge also appeared displeased, stating that while the Congress may currently lack power, its ideological spine remains strong. He reiterated that the party has never compromised on the Constitution or secularism and has never sought votes in the name of religion.

Ideological Lines Reaffirmed

Kharge further stressed that the Congress believes in unity, contrasting it with what he described as BJP’s divisive politics. He underlined that despite the BJP holding power, truth and constitutional values remain with the Congress, signaling a clear ideological boundary amid internal debates.
