New Delhi, July 26: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi appeared at the Enforcement Directorate’s Delhi office this afternoon for questioning in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper. She was accompanied by her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

After questioning began, Rahul Gandhi organised a march of Congress lawmakers from the House of Representatives to the Rashtrapati Bhawan in protest of the alleged abuse of government resources to assassinate opposition figures. Congressmen from other states participated in demonstrations and yelled protest signs. Many people in Assam gathered outside the legislative building and declared they would remain there till Sonia Gandhi’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate is finished today.

On Friday of last week, the central investigative agency sent a fresh summons to the Congress chief, requesting that he join the inquiry into the case of the National Herald by Monday. Later, it was postponed by one day.

She was last questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday for almost two hours, despite vehement protestations from Congress leaders who said the BJP-led federal government was engaging in political vendettas. Additionally, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had gone to the Delhi office of the investigation agency with her mother.

During the most recent meeting at the Enforcement Directorate office, more than two dozen inquiries were directed toward Sonia Gandhi.
